My ramblings: pg etc - 26 April 2007

I was retaining water & ballooned up. I couldn't remove my wedding rings & was told to watch my salt intake, but I didn't use much any ways. I had preclampsia. Could request much more? Well, after this, if you looked at me, I looked like I was pregnant with at least twins.

I finished my semester at college & stopped work in August.  We moved to a new house on the Air Force Base.  I was due 17 Sept.

Upon looking back I could tell you that Connor, my first son, was a wild child before birth. We went to see a movie when I was pregnant & he moved the entire time.  This was no 1 1/2 movie either! (Turned out to be a favorite of his as well.)

I don't think anyones life is stress free & my pregnancy wasn't.  I was thrilled to find I was pregnant. I was in love & engaged, but that I learned isn't always enough. My future mother-in-law was not happy & I never felt comfortable; she never seemed happy with me. Put that, being in college & working, a visit from an ex-wife & suddenly having a 4 year old to care for, mostly alone, who could have an easy pregnancy!

Even early on the baby moved so much that sleep was fleeting. Then there was the false labor(s). I was up hours sorting through recipes in the middle of the night, breathing through the pains. I had so much nausea that the doctor gave me medicine, but the medicine made me fall asleep.

There are so many children with disorders, illnesses, & pain & although I can't tell you why, I know even I, as a mother, have my theories.

My son, Connor, has often cried about his illnesses & asked me why. Although it isn't always easy, I tell him that God made him this way for a reason.  Perhaps he will find a cure, so another child won't have to ask why.

I am a single mother now. I am raising three children; two that have multiple issues. I am hoping that my third child has escaped having her own, but even she cannot escape living with it.

My ex also has many issues. I could no longer care for his illnesses, the children's, & protect them from the volitile relationship that came from it. My ex coulnd't handle his own life led alone a wife & children.

Med Changes C & I Issues - 20 Feb 2007

February 20, 2007

Connor:

Abilify 40 mg
Benedryl 100 mg
Ritalin ER 40 mg

Melatonin 5 mg

Connor has been doing well in school. The results from the school came in; Attention & memory being the issue in all things. His speech is secondary. Right now he has a cold.

Ian:

Benedryl 50 mg
Sertraline 25 mg
Risperdal .5 mg
Depokote 250 mg

Depokote 750 mg
Risperdal 1mg
Melatonin 3 mg

Ian got in trouble at school last week during a time with a substitute. He argued with the computer teacher; sub; and aid. He cried as well. He lost 2 recesses & line leader privilege for 2 weeks as he also argued about where he was supposed to stand in line.

Yesterday he did something after I expressly told him no. He acted as if we were going to go do something I said no to another time. I am unsure about this. He also has mentioned anger.

The last week in Jan. Dr. F increased his Dextroamphetamine to 15 mg & he reacted badly; Making homicidal comments about Connor. (I want to kill someone. I want to kill Connor.) He was extremely angry like I had never seen before. I removed him from it & told the doctor. Without it he is less focussed & more like his Charlie Chaplain self. However, when he is like this he is like the nick name a bit too much. Class clown.

I still have issues with punishment as nothing seems to work every time, which is a problem. The boys got in a fight when I told them to clean up in the front room Sat. They started arguing & Ian got hit. I feel Ian pushes Connor & then he blows. They were both sent to their rooms & lost both the TV & the computer for the entire afternoon/night. They also remained in their rooms for some time. Ian always comes out of his room, declaring what he should have done or wanting a hug instead of remaining in his room.

Ian has had a few bad dreams, including one he woke from with red eyes at 6:30 a.m.

Connor Behavior Journal - 1 Jan to 17 Feb 2007

Jan 1, 2007 - Fights/Yells/Loud: Ian accused Connor of twisting his (Ian's) neck. I didn't see the incident. Connor said "it served him right". Ian has been antagonizing Connor & then playing victim.

Jan 2, 2007 - Did check list well. Playing in room no problems. We went to town. Home & playing well in room again. Physical fight with Ian.

Jan 3, 2007 - Aggressive when disciplined. Good mood. Hurt brother over a spot in the van. Bad behavior during evening snack time. Rough housing with brother even after he was told not to & finally to go to bed. Went to bed fine.

Jan 4, 2007 - Up @ 6:30 am. Good Mood

Jan 5, 2007 - Connor kicked Ian in the gut after Ian wrecked on his bike. I was watching them & asked Connor why he kicked him as Ian hadn't done anything to him. He said it was because Ian had wrecked his (Connor's) bike earlier & he had just noticed. I am unsure, but he was smiling when he kicked him.

Jan 7, 2007 - Distractible in morning. Connor hit Ian when he was angry. (Afternoon) He threw a helmet at Ian, blaming Ian. (Eve)They argued over a game & were told to put it away; Connor scattered the pieces. He was told to pick them up & began to scream & cry.

Jan 8, 2007 - Good mood, but needed pushed to do check list - T.V. distraction turned off. I didn't know at the time, but he hadn't been doing some of his school work. Fought with his brother; blames Ian. Good evening.

Jan 9, 2007 - Not getting on in school. Problems being picked on. Wrote teacher.

Jan 11, 2007 - I found out he hadn't been doing his math, reading, & spelling in class. This is a school? Back talking, name calling, angry. Cries.

Jan 12, 2007 - Running late & didn't get check list done. Speech after school was repetitive.

Jan 16, 2007 - Push to get chores done.

Jan 19, 2007 - Disobeyed & went out fence. Punished in room. Disobeyed again & got 10 more mins. In room. He'd been good all day until then (@3:43 pm).

Jan 20, 2007 - Going to start new Ritalin med. Patch started on the weekend. I feel it works more like the patch than his Focalin did! Playing with sister, etc. J

Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - After Christmas he was refusing to do his school work & the teacher had no control. After talks with him & the teacher we made some adjustments. The insurance would no longer pay for the Focalin so we changed to the Ritalin extended release & they are working better & exactly like the patch. The teacher sent a note home yesterday saying how hard he worked & how well he did I was really happy & so was he! J Tuesday, January 23, 2007

Fine until 7:30 pm when he said Faith was a bad girl. He was told to go to his room & refused. He went & called me names from his room. 30 minutes later he said he didn't like me telling him what to do. I told him to take his meds & go to bed. He was angry, but did so.

Jan. 24, 2007 - Things were fine until C was coming off his Ritalin. He was stomping, yelling & screeching. He got mad at Ian & punched him in the back of the head, scaring Ian. Connor punched the door so hard I was sure there would be a hole or pain. There wasn't either. He stated that he "didn't mean to do it" & "I just get so frustrated". Is this what coming off Ritalin will do every day or is he cycling? (Turned out to be his "bad week".)

Jan 25, 2007 - Told not to get wet before school (snow), but he insisted on throwing snowballs. He was told to go in the house & told me "no". "You never let us play". 7:20 am. Defiant, argues & talks back. Fight with Ian. Homework done. Took out trash for extra points.

February 2007

Feb 3, 2007 - Behavior was good yesterday & today. Little annoyed with me, but no name calling & only a bit of nastiness in talk.

Feb 4, 2007 - No problems.

February 5, 2007 - Angry when I gave him 10 min in room for saying something mean to his sister. He yelled at me & got 5 minutes more. 5pm he was sent to bath & room for trying to change the DVD when his brother & sister were watching it. The rest of the evening went well. He's been doing good at school. No homework problems.

Feb. 6, 2007 - Good day at school. No homework problems. Good behavior when he had to wait when I was in the IEP meeting. We went out to dinner & he was very good & not loud. He used the shaving cream all up & took a bath instead of a shower. He will get the shaving cream price deducted from his allowance. Read book for 15 minutes.

Feb 7, 2007 - Good morning; Got chores done; Good with homework; Sent to room 2 times, but over all it was a good evening.

Feb 8, 2007 - Chores not complete as he got up late. Homework done well. Dinner. Read 15 minutes & got T.V.

Feb 11, 2007 - Calling Connor's name repeatedly to get him to listen; not 3-4 times!

Feb 12, 2007 - Calm. Normal activity. Bickering with brother. Chores completed.

Feb 13, 2007 - Pushed brother; broke his Lego toys. Sent to his room.

Feb 14, 2007 - Good day at school. Home with no chess club. Playing. Read his book. Ate, etc.

Feb 15, 2007 - Running late this a.m. Didn't get chores done. Good day at school. Doing homework after school.

Feb 17, 2007 - Up at 5 am. Normal activity in am; productive. Off to Chess Play Day with brother at 9 am. Back after 40 minutes. Playing fine. Late afternoon fight with Ian. Hit him in the nose. He blamed Ian, who was sent to his room & grounded as well as I feel he instigates. Connor was sent to room & grounded from the t.v. & computer. He handled this well.

Weight Loss Solution - 7 Feb 2007

February 07, 2007

Today I am starting Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution for the LAST time.

I want to lose 30 pounds initially. I want to weight no more than 160 pounds when I am done. I will exercise no less than three times a week on my treadmill. I will stop eating after 7:30 pm. I will no longer sit in my recliner & eat while watching TV especially after 7:30. I will no longer use food to keep me awake.

When the weight is lost I will no longer sit here & feel my fat against my arms. I will be able to wear smaller clothes. I will be healthier which is good for the many medical problems I have & my family carry. I will be healthier for my children & more able to be physically active with them. I will no longer feel an obsession for food like I do now; a panic that I need to eat X Y Z or I may not get that flavor. I will look nice in the clothes I want to wear.

I will lose 30 pounds to weigh in the 180's by the end of July. I want to walk 10,000 steps a day or 1 mile on my treadmill. I will use Dr. Phil's steps to accomplish my goals.

Gave higher Melatonin tonight.

Dec 31, 2006 - I kept asking Ian if he was tired. His eyes were glassy & he stared off in space. He said he wasn't, but later fell asleep for a coupld of hours.

Jan 21, 2007 - Not as active as usual. Looks tired by 8:15 am.

Jan 22, 2007 - When Ian came home he was not happy with his teacher. It said he back talked in his agenda. I told him he didn't do that & he said he did when she was bad mouthing Ian & me. (I don't believe this.) He was upset when I called Dr. F until I explained we need to work together to make it so there are no problems. This seemed better. He didn't like when I made him read the instructions on his home work, but them the rest went fine.

Jan 23, 2007 - Ian had a disagreement with his counselor over a game & he walked out. He came back with tears. She had never seen him upset as she said he was "always in control of his emotions". He mentioned no one playing with him at the last recess, but when I picked him up from school he didn't mention this; he was fine & happy. I explained his new meds & what Dr. F told me to tell him about needing Ian's help & this seemed to make him proud. He went to bed fine by 8pm.

Jan 24, 2007 - This morning Ian was trying to sneak his space suit under his clothes. He got caught & was angry. He kicked off his pants & hit his wrist on his dresser. Upset, worries excessively. He took a long time. He was upset that he could not eat at home because he took so long to do the checklist & had to eat at school.

Home - playing; ate dinner; homework we had a problem finding his spelling note book, which I think he knew was in his backpack. I was going to check & suddenly it appeared & said, "I didn't see it". We had the disagreement I didn't believe him & he knew it. He did his homework fine.

Argument with Connor, but I interceded & we resolved the issue quickly.

He wanted to play with me, but when I couldn't he was whiney, crying, & upset. He got angry with a computer game. He got angry with Connor who was playing on his own. He said he felt like "killing Connor". I am stopping the 15 mg of Dextroamphetamine tomorrow since they are out of school. I want to see how he does & if his anger is the same. I called Dr. F's answering service & left a message.

Feb 5, 2007 - At school Ian's teacher talked to him about his "spacing" in his writing & he cried. Ian told me he "needs to be perfect". I tried talking about no one being perfect & he didn't need to be perfect, but this doesn't seem to help. Later he got angry about how to open the door to his room when it got locked. No more anger. Right should still hurting.

Feb 6, 2007 - No problems at school. Normal activity. He had good behavior during the IEP when he & Connor had to wait. We went to dinner & he was fine. He got upset with Connor for not getting out of the bath & for using all of the shaving cream up. Good evening. Read his book for 15 minutes.

Meds & Bad Behavior Including Mine! 23 Jan 2007

January 23, 2007

This past week I have felt out of control. A lot of yelling on my part & no listening on theirs. I know this doesn't work. I felt I had no punishment that worked. My kids, like me, are so adaptable, that they deal with the lack of whatever it is so darn well it is aggravating to a mother!

I ordered the Voucher System on line this weekend. It was created for kids like mine by a mom like me with her own issues with sticking with things. I hope it is worth the price!

This week has been better. Connor is on a new medication that is more like the patch & is helping him both at school & home. We went from a week of refusing to partake & do his work to a week of working hard & doing well! I had issues with his teacher, & after a couple of notes & suggestions & a talk with the principal that seemed to work. I still have not heard about his IEP & I still do not thing he is getting as good an education as he did with me, but I plan on schooling them through the summer in reading, spelling & math.

Ian has been having more problems than before. His lying is driving me nuts. Everything has to be a tall tale, but I am not putting a lot of emphasis on it. I think it is an attention issue. These are lies of a creative nature not of getting out of trouble. With Connor on his new meds this weekend, it was the best weekend we've had in a long time. I like it because Connor plays more with Faith rather than terrorizing her; although I cannot figure out the bullying issue with Connor.

Back to Ian. He wasn't happy about two marks on his report card. One was ability to work on his own. The teacher & I don't think it is so much that as when she is working with other class members that his wants to know what is going on & help. He is nosey. Caring, but nosey. He does the same at home.

I am having a BIG issue with him not letting something go. Two weeks ago he wanted to go bowling (we already had for the month) & I didn't get paid for 2 more weeks. I explained this, but he still repeatedly came back saying he wanted to go until I was mad & he upset himself so bad he was in tears. He actually kept on about it the entire day.

Ian has had medication adjustments that I do not believe are working.

When he was home I tried talking to him about being argumentative to his teacher. He got upset & said she was bad mouthing him & me, which I don't believe. I had talked to her yesterday. He got mad & walked out of the house. When I called Dr. Fiszbein as I do not think the medication adjustments are doing a thing, Ian got very upset. He is upset as he doesn't want put in the hospital. I explained that Dr. F & I work together over the phone so that doesn't have to happen. I explained we need to work together to get his medications right so there isn't a problem in school. I feel that he feels like he is always being picked on. Connor says it, but Ian doesn't. He felt better after that.

We did his homework. He was upset I made him read his own instructions at first, but finished everything with no problem.

This morning everything was going well.

Note to C's teacher - 11 Jan 2007

11 Jan 2007

Mrs. Fitzgerald,

I am sorry about the issues with Connor, however, I think I should have been notified the first time it occurred so that I could address that with him then.

You must TELL Connor he has to do it. I just say, lets go, what is 6+4 & it may help. He most likely won’t tell you he needs help, but if he is refusing the work it is because he DOES need help. He is stubborn. Can’t guess where he gets that from!

I have talked to him, however his temper has been high, even at home. Cycling week. If he does not complete work at school, he will be punished at home. I made this clear today. I really need to know what topics he covers each day so I can go over it with him. His memory is so lousy on things like that & can not tell me unless something peeks his interest ie., Martin Luther King, Library or P.E. Imagine that.

After talking to Connor I found out he is being picked on by two students in the reading group (Christin? & Cory). My other son, Ian, confirmed this as one child from the class has also been making fun of him at the breakfast (Cory) table. That could also be why he isn’t wanting to eat breakfast this week.

I do understand the attitude issue, but this is more than an attitude problem. It is anxiety & it is very real. Connor works best in strict structure & I am not sure if he is getting that in a public situation.

Does he get spelling words every week? Could I suggest he write them down in a notebook that I will provide. He can bring it home every night like his brother & write them at home each night as well.

Let me know if this is something we could try.

Thank you.

Boys Meds Apt. - 6 Jan 2007

6 Jan 2007

Ian Dewey

Medications:

AM AFTERNOON BEDTIME

Benedryl 100 mg Risperdal .5 mg Depokote ER 750 mg
Risperdal .5 mg Sertraline 50 mg Risperdal 1 mg
Dextroamphetamine 10mg Melatonin 3mg

Medication changes due to increasing mood swings ie., slamming door, starting fights with brother, yelling, crying, hitting things. Also, depression & mention of someone wanting to kill him. Paranoia perhaps brought on by problems at school. Ie., girls in chess club, and a boy outside calling him a geek. Older child.

I am having trouble disciplining Ian & Connor. I seem to have lost the “currency” for punishment. Sending to room doesn’t work. No TV doesn’t work. I am having trouble with mouthing off and outright disobedience once they are told to or not to do something.

Connor Dewey

Medications:

AM AFTERNOON BEDTIME

Abilify 40mg None Melatonin 10mg
Benedryl 100 mg

School is going well academically except Ian has a hard time with the reading still.

Ian has been taking Depokote for over a month now. I am not sure what, if anything, it is doing. I also do not think the Dextroamphetamine is doing anything for his focus at school. Dr. Fiszbein increased his Depokote another 250 to be taken when he gets home, but frankly I don't think it does a thing. And he changed 5mg of the Dextroamphetamine to the afternoon which is making it worse at school. I called Dr. Fiszbein yesterday & am waiting for a call today.
